One of the first good new planes became the fighter I-26 of A.S. Yakovlev. It was on testing in January 1940. After the testing and the necessary improvements the serial manufacturing of the I-26 was begun and soon the plane received the name Yak-1. The distinctive feature of this plane, as well as that of the other combat planes of A.S. Yakovlev of the war period, was its small weight, good stability and simplicity of piloting. This modification had no special designation, but by analogy with Yak-7B the planes Yak-1 with the UBS machinegun were sometimes called in combatant units Yak-1B. The state testing of the modified Yak-1 (Yak-1B) was held in the Research Institute of Air Forces from 4 till 14 July 1942. The series production of the Yak-1B began from September 1942. In total 4188 planes were constructed. The main special feature of the plane was the new fire control system , the new glazing of the canopy and the low, in connection with the installation hereof, fuselage spine fairing, what made the backward view better. The Yak-1B was used for the whole duration of the Great Patriotic War at all the fronts, in the Naval Aviation and Air Defence. In this issue of the magazine the patterns of the details of the model of the plane Yak-1B are represented, on which the pilot Alber Duran from the air regiment “Normandy-Niemen” flew in spring, 1943.
