| One of the first orthodox defensive temples - the Cathedral of sacred Sofia in Polotsk also applies for inclusion in the List of the World heritage of UNESCO. This monumental monument of architecture XI-XVIII of centuries has been constructed by the Byzantian architects for five building seasons between 1044-1066 at prince Vseslav Brjachislaviche (Magician) on the right to coast of the western Dvina. Feature of the Polotsk Sofia cathedral are cut apses, characteristic for wooden temples. Neither in Kiev, nor in Novgorod such apses do not meet. The grandiose cathedral served as the main public building of city where there was a reception of ambassadors, appeared about war and peace. The cathedral was the main object of tourist interest in Polotsk, the center of a cultural life.
