| ...Once one old and skilled driver, who had driven many cars of different types during his life, was asked, which car was being remembered by him with the warmest feeling, and he answered without a moment's hesitation: "Of course, the "gazon"!"
In the history of the Soviet automobile production there was no car more popular than the modest though very well-formed and tastefully made truck of 2,5 ton GAZ-51, or as it was called among the drivers, the "Gazon".
The first experimental patterns of the GAZ-11-51 were constructed before the Great Patriotic war, the series production was begun from 1946. The truck had been produced for 31 years - a rather rare duration. The last GAZ-51A came off the conveyor in April 2, 1975 and was sent to the factory museum. The total circulation of the "gazons" made up 3 481 033 copies.
