| "Almaz" is the cruiser of the Russian Imperial Fleet. It was laid at the Baltic Plant in St. Petersburg on the 12th of September 1902 by the constructor, marine engineer A. Moiseyev. On the 2nd of June 1903 it was set afloat. It went into service in November 1903. With the beginning of the Russo-Japanese War the cruiser was transferred to the Pacific Ocean. It participated in the Tsusimskiy Battle, was the only cruiser that forced through Vladivostok, where it came on the 29th of May 1905. In summer, 1905 it was rearmed in Vladivostok. On the 2nd of November 1905 it left for the Baltic. From 1906 it was a dispatch vessel, from 1908 - an emperor's yacht. In 1911, after the repair works at the Franco-Russian Plant it was included into the Black Sea Fleet. In the First World War it was armed with 7 guns of 120 mm, was used as a hydrocruiser. On the 5th of November 1914 it participated in the battle at the Sarych Cape in the capacity of a scout ship. On the 28th of March 1915 it took part in the first bombardment of the Bosporus. In 1918, when being in Sevastopol, it was seized by the German troops, then passed to the British interventionists and was given by them to the White Guardists. On the 14th of November 1920, as a part of the Russian Squadron under the flag of the rear admiral Osteletskiy, it left for Bizerta, where on the 29th of December 1920 was interned by the French authorities. After the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and the Soviet Russia, it was recognized the property of the USSR on the 29th of October 1924 and sold for scrap by the "Rudmetalltorg" to a French firm. Among the peculiarities of the model one should mention the excellent detailed drafting, the double-sided printing on the sheets; the screws and other elements of bronze are printed with the corresponding colour. |
